American Buffalo Gold: America's Official 24 Karat Investment Coin

Historic United States Gold coins were struck to about 22 karat purity, with small amounts of nickel and copper included to make the coins more durable and scratch-resistant. The alloyed coins are slightly heavier, as they contain the same gold content as their more purist counterparts. In response to other nations issuing .9999 pure gold coins, the united states launched the American Buffalo Gold coin in 2006.

Although some fractional denominations were struck during the early years of the program, the financial crises of 2008 saw the Mint suspend and pare down offerings to bare-bones levels. Today, we expect to see new American Buffalo coins struck in its most popular, one-ounce $50 denomination, either as general issues or as proof coins.
