Just Released: Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin
The 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin is the first of three 24-karat gold coins the Mint is issuing this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of three classic coin designs first issued in 1916. That date falls within a well-recognized renaissance period in American coin design, and each of these issues is an exquisite reflection of America’s spirit and progress in the early 20th century. The Mint is reissuing the coins in 24-karat gold to commemorate the 100th anniversary of these groundbreaking designs.
✓ The Mercury coin will be limited to just 125,000 strikes, giving it instant collector appeal and opportunity for enhanced numismatic value.
✓ These coins feature a “specimen strike,” a hybrid between a Mint State and Proof finish.
✓ Each 2016 gold specimen will match the size and diameter of its companion silver coin from 1916.
✓ The Mercury Dime contains one tenth ounce of 24-karat, .9999 pure gold and is an official United States government issue.
✓ Sculptor Adolph A. Weinman designed both the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. The Walking Liberty design can be seen today as the familiar front (obverse) side of American Eagle silver coins.
